Masks

As I sit here in this oncology waiting room, I’m reminded of the multitude of masks we wear.

Not “covid” masks but the fake ones we wear on a daily basis.

The “pleasant” mask the receptionist wears for overbearing patients until she has no choice but to raise her voice…

The “happy go lucky” mask some nurses wear until you ask one too many questions on behalf of the parent you are advocating for…

The “polite” mask of the physician who can no longer contain his curtness when his advice to sign an end-of-life care form is not taken…

Are we all just acting?

Changing our masks several times a day until longevity and familiarity force our true colors out?
